Manning Great Lakes Tip Riders Super D Results 1st July 2012
A small but classy field of 16 riders signed on for the club’s 2nd ever All Mountain (Super D) race on Sunday 1st July.
The quality field of riders came from far and wide to test themselves against a testing and technical track over 3.9km. The Kempsey crew again travelled to defend their 1st round win in Taree, and the Nelson Bay boys entered the mix to challenge riders from Port and the Taree locals.
The track conditions were near perfect, with only a few slippery spots to keep riders on their game. The big talking point amongst the racers was the rocky creek crossing on the “Skull”, with choice of line, bravery and stupidity all paying reward.
Winner on the day was a combined time of the best 2 runs from each of the riders 3 attempts.
The times after the 1st run kept many riders in the mix, but Kempsey’s Joshua Rose took a huge 21 second lead over the rest of the field, with Taree’s Dave Collins in 2nd place and Chad Vowles 3rd down the run.
The second run down the mountain saw much the same result with Joshua Rose again showing all the speed. A much quicker 2nd run down from Daniel Morgan from Kempsey saw a 2nd fastest time, despite a trip over the bars on Lobotomy, with the Taree pair of Dave Evans and Dave Collins keeping them honest.
The final run of the day mostly saw an improvement in times by all, except those brave souls who pedalled back up to the top of each run rather than vehicle shuttle. A blistering final run by Kempsey’s Daniel Morgan saw him take out the race win overall with an astonishing 10:07 time down the mountain. Second overall was Joshua Rose also from Kempsey, with local Dave Collins holding 3rd place.
Thanks go out to all riders for making it a top day, and of course the MGLTR Club volunteers and officials for putting on a great show. Look out for the next All Mountain race in the coming months.
Chad Vowles
